A request by MetalheadAbyss, and a project I\'ve been meaning to do for some time. Bruce Campbell is long overdue for a comeback as the iconic Ashley Williams (yup, that\'s really his name). Evil Dead is the indie horror everyone points to when they need an underdog success story. The ingenious aspect of the series was that just as it was becoming a parody of itself, it intentionally began poking fun at horror tropes and it\'s own characters. Ash went from a mincing victim, to one of the greatest cinematic badassess in history. How can you not be when you chainsaw off your own hand after it turns zombie, and then attatch the same chainsaw to the stump? Rami the director has since gone on to direct the Spiderman series (!) but since the third film cooled spideymania, at least for now, it\'s high time he returned to his roots and had some fun with the humor/gore/horror/adventure genre he pioneered. What was so great about Evil Dead was that it was funny while still being scary at times. Even Army of Darkness stayed pretty dark and weird despite it\'s goofy sense of humor. As for a plot, it needn\'t be too complex because this is one series where that isn\'t the main draw. Needless to say it would have to take place a few years after Ash returns to his time. Following a fairly peaceful retirement with his girl (far from any cabins) he is looked upon by society at large as \'that weirdo who survived the woodland massacre\'. However when an unscrupulous scientist decides the world would be a better place if he brought demons into it via the Necronomicon, Ash is really the only hero available, and definitely the only one with experience! A world overrun by demons, Bruce Campbell armed with a shotgun and a chainsaw, and maybe some subplot about his girl getting taken away to be sacrificed to release Dark Ash upon the world, is really all Rami would need to fill theaters. There\'s been a few pretenders to the throne (Jack Brooks Monster Slayer comes to mind), but no matter his age, if Bruce came back there\'s almost no way he\'d disappoint. I used footage from the best Evil Dead game Regeneration. The plot of that game by itself could make a great movie. I just wish I could have found good footage of Ash\'s partner Sam from the game, a midget deadite voiced by Ted Rami! Also, Evil Dead 4 MUST have the oldsmobile XD [More] [Less] |
